Rich Post, returning to the studio after a summer of soccer, John Baumes and Chris Marquart welcome Bobby Varin back to the 31st Lap again, and then chat with legendary Joe Plazek, driver of the Maple Leaf No. 1. Jeff Hachmann of DIRTcar NorthEast stops in to pump Super DIRT Week, and Daryl Barrett acts as our field reporter at the Spalding Foundation’s Challenge of Champions II at the Seneca Grand Prix in Watkins Glen, featuring Allen Bestwick, Jeff Green, and Erik Darnell. He won his heat race, and then we lost track of him!

Thoughts go out to Randy Adams, a derby driver in Pennsylvania. Adams’ father was seriously injured when a fuel cell exploded on a truck they were preparing to run Saturday night. Pete is doing well following a series of surgeries, but doctors are continuing to caution everyone. There is a benefit going on… please call Homer Swanson at 330-277-6529 for details or for more information on how to contribute.
We welcome another star-studded field to the 31st Lap. Birthday boy Rob Bellinger will be in to talk about his win at Brewerton last Friday, and Mike Mahaney will talk about his co-win Wednesday at Can-Am. Marc Minutolo will discuss his record-setting win Saturday at Canandaigua Motorsports Park, and Jay Fish comes in as the closer to talk about the newly revamped Dirt Motorsports Hall of Fame.
Mike misses the event due to a baseball game, but we press on and welcome Chris Hile and Billy Dunn to the studio. Hile discusses how his third-place showing is like a victory following the off-season fire that claimed the team’s hauler. Dunn talks about running modifieds and sprint cars; we chat with him about the upcoming 360 Empire Super Sprints opener at Can-Am Motorsports Park.
