This week, John Baumes and Steven Ovens are in studio to talk about NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series event at Eldora, and Mike Mahaney weighs in on his two-win weekend. Mahaney won the BD Motorsports-promoted Crazy 8s at I-88 Speedway in Afton, NY and held off Stewart Friesen in Sunday’s make-up feature at Utica-Rome.
For the first time, Doug Manmiller visits the 31st Lap, and Dirt Motorsports Hall of Fame photographer and longtime friend of the show Jay Fish stops in for a live appearance. We also chat about our favorite tracks in and around the northeast, and career race/track/state counts.
In an adventurous 35th episode, we welcome a total of six guests to the program! Vic Coffey is expected to be on, along with sit-in co-host Justin Henderson, Dan Harpell, Cody Bleau, Cory Reed and Luke Whitteker.
Justin backed up his first co-host endeavor with a win in Saturday’s heat and Sportsman feature at Canandaigua Motorsports Park. Dan Harpell stops by to pump the July 11 RoC event at Black Rock Speedway and Cory Reed stops in to talk about Tony Stewart’s appearance at Brewerton Speedway on July 18. Coffey chats up Canandaigua Motorsports Park, and Cody Bleau stops in to talk about his season at Fonda Speedway.
Driver of the Week: Justin Henderson, as co-host and winner (by default)
And we also fielded our third-ever call-in guest, DanDan from Dirt Track Digest’s forums!
Many thanks to DIRTcar and Rolling Wheels Raceway management for all their help, promotion and cooperation in making the Tom Ames Dedication to Racing event Tuesday July 3 at Rolling Wheels. It was a memorable event that was most appropriate in honoring Tom, a dear friend to the racing community and a dyed-in-the-wool supporter of the full-fender racers.
We’ll be live from Amy’s Checkered Flag on July 12. Make sure you stop in and say hi! The guest list includes (by phone) Bobby Allison, Mike McLaughlin, and Buzzie Reutimann, and in-person: Tom Fletcher, Stu Sheppard, John McArdle, John Podolak, Dave Rauscher, Bobby Parrow, Mike Stelter, Chuck Ciprich, Rollie Velte, Ron Narducci and many more. Racecars are welcome!
We welcome another star-studded field to the 31st Lap. Birthday boy Rob Bellinger will be in to talk about his win at Brewerton last Friday, and Mike Mahaney will talk about his co-win Wednesday at Can-Am. Marc Minutolo will discuss his record-setting win Saturday at Canandaigua Motorsports Park, and Jay Fish comes in as the closer to talk about the newly revamped Dirt Motorsports Hall of Fame.
