On Wednesday night at Rush-Henrietta, FL1 Sports presented a doubleheader featuring the Section V Class C State Play-In Game between Lyons and Northstar Christian followed by the Class A Play-In Game between Wayne and Irondequoit. The winners advance to the NYSPHSAA tournament and the Far West Regional Game. Lyons junior Justice Smith scored 21 of his game-high 33 points in the second half of Monday night’s Section V Class A2 championship game between the Lions and the top-seeded Perry Yellow Jackets in the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. With his team trailing in the fourth quarter, Smith hit 3 three-pointers and went 4-4 from the line in the final period to lead the Lyons Lions the 18th sectional championship in their school’s history and head coach Zac Young his third sectional title.
The first meeting of the Route 31 Rivalry saw Lyons defeat Clyde-Savannah 87-82 at the Atwood Gymnasium in one of the most entertaining games of the season so far. On Thursday night, the two Wayne County goliaths square-off in Clyde with matching 13-1 league records. The Golden Eagles feature a tremendous trio of seniors in Derrick Chance, Dru Carnevale and Marcus Chance. Lyons features junior stand-out point guard Justice Smith, fresh off scoring his 1,000th career point on Tuesday night against Williamson. The winner takes the historic Wayne County league championship. Jim Sinicropi and Matt Verkey will have the call for FL1 Sports.
